Monovision

At Texan Eye, we use monovision to treat presbyopia and improve near vision for reading. Monovision refers to the process of focusing the dominant eye for distance and the non-dominant eye for near. It is achieved with lens implants during cataract surgery, LASIK, ASA and contact lenses. Monovision produces what is known as "monocular vision" and is a simple and effective treatment for presbyopia, a condition that inhibits the ability of the eye to change focus, or accommodate, for near vision.

Cataract Surgery - an Overview

Cataracts occur as a natural function of time. Though there are many types of cataracts and just as many risk factors, the end result is the same, that of blurred and distorted vision due to the opacification of the natural lens.

Cataract surgery is the removal of the opacificied lens of the eye. It is the most common surgery in the United States and the procedure can usually be completed in less than 15 minutes. During cataract surgery, the eye is numbed with anesthetic eye drops, and the cataract is removed and replaced with a lens implant. The lens implant is inserted through a tiny incision and naturally adhere to the eye without the need for stitches.

With techniques in cataract surgery and technology in lens design honed over the past several decades, the level of safety is now unsurpassed and the options for lens implants, vast and varied. Designed for distance, intermediate, and near vision, a new generation of specialty lenses have catapulted the implant options for the more than three millions Americans who seek cataract surgery annually.

At Texan Eye centers in Austin, Georgetown, Bastrop, and Burnet, cataract surgery has become more popular than ever since the introduction of these new accommodating and multifocal lens implants. Here, the goal of Full Focus® cataract surgery is to enhance vision across a full range of distances. For patients with cataracts, with or without presbyopia and refractive error, we are proud to offer Crystalens®, Tecnis® Multifocal, ReSTOR®, and AcrySOF® Toric intraocular lenses. These multifocal, accommodating, and astigmatism-correcting lenses are designed to improve focusing power at near, intermediate, and far, thus reducing or eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses following cataract surgery.
